Regenerative Commitment In Tourism

At Libbear Barton, we believe our guests should leave not only refreshed, but with a deeper appreciation of nature, community, and sustainable living. We're committed to making our site—and our surroundings—better, not just for guests, but for future generations.

Climate – Decarbonising Energy and Mobility

We’ve significantly reduced our carbon footprint over the past five years. A 20kW solar array powers much of the site, while our new ground source heat pump delivers renewable heating to new accommodation. All firewood is sourced from windblown trees on-site. Our electricity is supplied by a 100% renewable provider, and we’re phasing in battery-powered and robotic landscaping tools—better for emissions, staff wellbeing, and the guest experience.

Circular Economy – Responsible Waste and Resources

We compost green waste and food scraps on-site, and have integrated veg-growing polytunnels for guests to pick from. Water for agriculture and irrigation is drawn from our borehole, reducing pressure on mains supply. BBQ gas, firewood, and baby equipment are all included in stays to reduce unnecessary purchases. We aim to support guests in producing less waste during their holiday, not more.

Biodiversity – Restoring and Rewilding

We’ve planted over 50 trees, expanded hedgerows, and ceased cultivation in several areas, allowing nature to reclaim and regenerate. Wildlife now thrives: deer, hares, owls, lizards, newts, grass snakes, bats, and birds of prey are regular visitors. This biodiversity is both celebrated and protected.

Place-Based Tourism – Respecting and Supporting Local Life

We work with over 30 local businesses—from caterers to hot tub suppliers and local attractions—driving footfall and economic value into our rural community. We promote them actively through welcome packs, social media and guest recommendations. We’re proud to be a good neighbour, and to support tourism that does no harm.
