Sustainability at Libbear Barton: What we are doing
At Libbear Barton, we believe family holidays should leave you feeling reconnected—both to each other and to the world around you. But they shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet. That’s why we’re working steadily to reduce our environmental impact while keeping the magic of a proper countryside escape.
Here’s how we’re doing it.
1. Rewilding & Wildflower Meadows
We’ve rewilded five acres of previously managed land, encouraging native wildflowers, long grasses and wildlife to flourish. The result is more pollinators, more birdsong — and more natural beauty on your doorstep.
2. Tree Planting & Habitat Care
We’ve planted over 50 new trees and carefully manage our hedgerows and woodlands to provide safe, thriving habitats for birds, mammals and insects across the estate.
3. Borehole Water
Our animals and agricultural areas are supplied by a natural borehole, reducing pressure on the mains water system and using what the land naturally provides.
4. Solar Energy
We harness solar power to reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy. It’s one of several steps we’re taking to lower our carbon footprint across the site.
5. Composting Food Waste
All guest and kitchen food waste is composted on site, helping reduce landfill and return nutrients to the soil — feeding future growth and reducing emissions.
6. Reconnecting with Nature
Our Animal Barn isn’t just for cuddles (though there are plenty of those!) — it’s a hands-on way for children and adults alike to reconnect with where food comes from, and experience the simple joys of farm life.
7. A Place You Don’t Need to Leave
With walking trails, a lake, woodland, swimming pool, soft play, gym, games room and more — Libbear Barton is designed as a place where you can truly slow down and stay put. Less time in the car, more time outdoors.
8. Waste Reduction & Recycling
All our cottages are equipped with clearly marked recycling bins. We use eco-conscious cleaning products wherever possible and minimise single-use plastics across the site.
At Libbear Barton, sustainability is simply part of how we take care of the place — from the land and animals to the way we welcome guests. Whether you’re collecting eggs with the kids, wandering through the Wild Wood, or sitting out with a glass of something in the evening, we hope you’ll enjoy being part of a slower, more thoughtful way to holiday.
